Barbara Marcus

With focused intention and a degree in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, the world of fine art continues to arouse passion and focus my attention on excellence. My love of painting is perfectly expressed in monotypes. Each monotype shows radical individuality, being an image that transfers to paper one time by use of my etching press.

Using the tools of brush and brayer, I combine color gradations, symbols, familiar shapes and thought-provoking titles that allow the rhythms of nature to interlink with the subconscious. Using a vocabulary of joyful shapes and colorful surface texture, my inspiration comes from abstract expressionism and the 20th century modern masters. Combining abstraction with representation, my art works through suggestion, moving the viewer beyond the mind of predictability and analysis to the secret regions of the unknown.
